Quoting Radio NZ ….The company services about 40,000 properties south of Auckland, from the Manukau Heads and Papakura south to Waikaretu.
The 200-kilometre per hour wind gusts felled eight power poles and damaged more than 50 lines, cutting power to 14,600 properties – a third of its customers.
Counties Power said the damage was far worse than from January’s storm, and has caused the most outages in its history.
Spokesperson Geoff Douch said it had brought in crews from nearby areas and managed to reconnect all but 500 properties.
“It’s just been unprecedented damage to the network. We’ve had some of the highest winds ever recorded in the area with winds over 200km per hour up around the Manukau Heads so the western side of our network has been quite badly affected by that but there’s still be widespread damage cross the whole network, right across to the Firth of Thames.” Link to the rest of the article
