Since 1924, The Workshop has been part of the Franklin community. Providing transport and general engineering and heavy diesel service/maintenance in Pukekohe. From our start as the Franklin Electric Power Board workshop to becoming the business we are today, we’ve earned a solid rep for transport, Structural, heavy/light and custom fabrication, tackling everything from draw beams to structural construction steel.
We have just built a new tech room. This will expand our ability to provide our customers with a design to manufacture work flow.
The Workshop 1924 is now looking for a skilled heavy diesel mechanic to join our close-knit team. This is one of several roles available at The Workshop 1924.
We specialize in servicing and maintaining a diverse range of clients’ fleets, keeping their trucks on the road and running at peak performance. We also service and maintain a range of smaller support vehicles and trailers.
Our heavy diesel and engineering workshop is based in Pukekohe. We support local business near and far, including Transport, Utilities vehicles, Rental/lease fleets, Trades, Horse trucks, Farm vehicles and more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension and other systems.
- Pre-COF inspections and repairs
- Scheduled Servicing
- Conduct preventative maintenance and thorough inspections.
- Troubleshoot issues efficiently to minimize downtime for our clients’ fleets.
- Help train the next generation of The Workshop’s diesel mechanics
Requirements:
- 5+ Years of proven experience as a qualified heavy diesel mechanic.
- Leading hand experience and job management experience.
- In-depth knowledge of diesel systems and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work well under pressure.
- Valid driver’s license (Class 2-5 not required but preferred)
- EWP and Crane repair, service and safety inspection experience (not required but preferred)
- Forklift license (not required but preferred)
- Basic welding skills (Not required but preferred)

FABRICATOR/FITTER/WELDER LEADING HAND

Our engineering division, including Steinmetz Industrial Systems, is growing fast, and we’re looking for a talented and experienced fitter/welder fabricator to jump in and lead the way. This is one of several roles available at The Workshop 1924.
The role
We’re after someone who’s a pro at everything fabrication and engineering, loves leading from the front and can keep projects on track. You’ll guide the team through transport engineering work like LT400 cert repairs, new builds, drawbar/beams, and chassis repairs, plus general and heavy fabrication, custom design and builds and take the lead on product design/development and manufacturing. It’s a hands-on role where you’ll blend technical skills with leadership to make awesome things happen. You’ll still be on the tools and working with the guys but over time the time on the tools will reduce.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Crew Chief: Help management keep our Engineering Division at 14 Glasgow Road buzzing, handling transport engineering, general fabrication, heavy fabrication and project management.
- Building Cool Stuff: be intimately involved in the design, prototyping, and testing of new products, ensuring they’re tough, practical, and ready for the market.
- Schedule management: help management keep our transport, fabrication, and product development projects on track, ensuring our staff pump out high-quality work within our clients deadlines
- Inspire and guide our crew of engineers, fabricators, and manufacturing staff, creating a tight-knit, innovative vibe that honours our 100-year legacy.
- Work with our clients to nail down their needs, keep our customer service team up to date, and insuring happy customers.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: 7+ years in engineering and fabrication with 2+ years in a supervisory role or managing projects. Welding certs and some experience in CAD is preferred.
- Vibe: You’re proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable, with a passion for making awesome fabrication projects come to life.

SOCIAL MEDIA SUPPORT
We are looking for a Part Time social media guru to create content for our workshop.
Preferrable locally based, Franklin area, to enable you to call into the shop and create content.
Experience with creating posts that can engage our clients, advertise our services and illustrate what we products and services we can provide. Create a forward plan for ongoing content.
5-10 hours per week.
